New Manchester City director of football Txiki Begiristain is eager to create a successful relationship with manager Roberto Mancini.
Begiristain, who held the same position at Barcelona between 2003 and 2010, will oversee the recruitment of players after replacing Brian Marwood at the Etihad Stadium.
The Spaniard was responsible for signing Ronaldinho, Samuel Eto o, Thierry Henry and David Villa during his time at the Camp Nou.
He also maintained the youth setup that saw the likes of Sergio Busquets break into the senior team.
Begiristain will aim to provide a similar level of success in the transfer market, following complaints from Mancini about Marwood in the most recent window.
The 48-year-old said he was looking forward to operating alongside Mancini, Marwood and former Barcelona colleague and new chief executive Ferran Soriano.
I m satisfied with this exciting chance I have been given, Begiristain told Sport.
Manchester City s development and their successes in the pitch are obvious. I feel honoured I can be a part of the future successes.
I m excited about the possibility of working with Marwood, Mancini and Soriano. We just want to build a team and a philosophy which can succeed not only at a short-term, but also at a long-term.
Marwood has taken up a new post as managing director of the club s football academy.
